FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT IS PSYCHOTHERAPY?

Psychodynamic psychotherapy, sometimes called psychoanalytic psychotherapy, is about relationships, with yourself and others, both inside and out. It is about freedom and authenticity.

It helps you get to know yourself more honestly and broadens your range of understanding and emotional experience. It enables you to take up a greater authority of yourself, making a more fulfilling life possible.

It is the most theoretically developed talking therapy, with a strong evidence base, and has influenced all other psychotherapy treatments.

Psychodynamic psychotherapy looks to make sustained and deep changes. It requires practitioners to undergo rigorous training, so make sure you enquire about people’s experience and credentials when choosing a therapist.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT?

I offer an open, reliable, safe, and confidential space where we can begin to understand and explore your difficulties.

I may be interested in things that lie outside of your awareness, your dreams and early life, your relationships past and present, and how they relate to your thoughts and feelings in the here and now with others and with me.

I invite and welcome any thoughts and feelings, critical feedback, and reflections at all stages of our work together.

WHEN AND WHERE ARE SESSIONS?

Sessions would be at the same time each week for both open-ended therapy or shorter-term work.

This will be a space held for you each week so missed sessions will be charged.

Sessions will take place in my consulting room located in Clapton Square, Hackney.

HOW LONG ARE SESSIONS?

Regular sessions are 50 minutes long and will be set at the same time once or twice each week.

To begin, I will offer an initial consultation where we will get to know something about what brings you to therapy and answer any questions you might have. It will also be a chance for you to get a feeling of what it would be like to work together.

It can sometimes take a few meetings to see if this treatment would be best for you. However, if after meeting it is felt that this approach might not be suitable, I can help think about who or what might be most appropriate.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

You can email or text to arrange an initial free 10 minute consultation by telephone. If after this you wish to proceed, we can arrange an in person consultation.

I operate a sliding scale and reserve spaces for students or those on low income so please do ask about this and let me know your circumstances.

DO YOU OFFER SHORT-TERM WORK?

Yes. I offer open ended psychotherapy as well as short-term work of 6-12 sessions if there is a specific issue you would like to work on.
